Hightech & Herz - Human-Centered Innovation Through Creative Collaboration

The German Federal Competence Center for the Cultural and Creative Industries aimed to explore how digital transformation can prioritize people and social well-being. Their initiative, Hightech & Heart, sought innovative, forward-looking solutions by bringing together diverse stakeholders.

The Challenge

In a rapidly advancing digital age, the Competence Center wanted to explore ways to humanize technology. They needed a collaborative process that involved creative industries, experts, and the public to co-develop solutions that address societal needs.

The Solution

Futures Canvas provided the ideal platform for a multi-dimensional, three-month program that combined digital and analog elements. Starting with a digital kickoff, participants from creative industries and various sectors brainstormed potential future scenarios using the platform. This set the foundation for a two-day Innovation Camp in Berlin, where 70 participants developed innovation ideas in areas such as Smart City, Digital Health, and Sexuality & Technology. Solutions were published on Futures Canvas for public voting and review, attracting over 100 submissions and 1,000 evaluations.

The top five teams were selected for a Creative Lab, where Futures Canvas continued to guide their ideation. Teams developed business models and innovative solutions within six weeks, creating human-centered tech projects.

The Results

The Hightech & Heart program led to the development of five entrepreneurial ideas, each addressing societal challenges. Futures Canvas played a key role in facilitating creative collaboration, resulting in actionable solutions and further highlighting the potential of the creative industries in tech innovation.

Futures Garden - Pioneering policy innovation through participatory foresight

Client Overview

The Futures Garden project, part of the European Commission’s Foresight on Demand initiative, sought to prototype alternative futures by exploring societal impacts of emerging technologies and challenges.

The Challenge

Policymakers and citizens needed a platform to collaboratively engage with speculative scenarios and reflect on future societal changes, examining technology’s role in shaping tomorrow.

The Solution

Using Futures Canvas as a central tool, the project hosted digital and physical workshops centered on two speculative films. Participants shared, rated, and expanded on future narratives, creating a dynamic repository of societal insights.

The Results

Futures Garden demonstrated the power of participatory foresight by gathering hundreds of participant opinions across workshops. The process enabled the development of innovative future scenarios, highlighting how public engagement fosters more inclusive, creative policymaking.
